My hair turned red!!?

Hi!

My hair is med to dark brown and I want to make my hair lighter. I know you have to do it slowly so you hair doesnt get damage, so I went to a light brown shade but my hair got a little bit red at the top. I went to the beauty supply store and they gave me "unred", a product that is supposed to take the red out of the hair but it didnt work. The girls said that if the "unred" didnt work I should try to dye it again but with acolor that has the word "ash" on it so it would take the red away.

I got a color called "Dark ash blonde" but Im affraid is gona turn red again!!!

What would you recomend?

un-red doesn't work for everyone. ash levels out redness, though.try it, and if it doesn't work, maybe use a lightener?

Go to the hair dressers and try to get professional highlights done. Its safer.

Blonde highlights may be the best bet!! Will take longer to get an all over colour, but it's better then a reddish colour!!! Good luck!!

I had brown hair and I died it to DARK brown hair and it was nasty..so I wanted to go back to light brown, so I went to the store and got a "dark ash blonde" and now it is a brown with a reddish tint and I really don't like it :(

I would recommend you don't do it yourself and go to a salon because then you will not like it and will try to dye it again, and it will damage your hair more.

Hair coloring is very complex. Please go to a reputable salon and have them use a product to strip the color out, condition and then color it lighter. They can take out the orange or red tones by adding green (ash) back into your hair.

best to go to a salon . cost more money least it will be the right colour. my hair is the same colour as yours i lighten it went day-glow orange i just became a punk for a while !! if you dye your hair to much with diff brand's big trouble, go to a salon to do it please !

Highlights are the best bet. It can be pretty expensive at a salon, so maybe the Herbal Essences highlighting kit, might be best on you. It worked for me.

If you would want to do it by yourself, I would reccomend that you first slightly lighten it, then dye it with the color you've picked. However, you also said that you want your hair to be lighter in color, so I would also just recomend that after about a month, and if your hair does not turn red again, you either get honey blond highlights, or get a special type of shampoo that extracts a blondy tint from your hair. I've forgot what company makes it, and what it's called, but I've seem stores that sell 'em.

Oh, by the way, if you can't seem to get the red out of your hair, I suggest that you just leave it along for a while and maybe it'll go away by itself. Also, red is a beautiful color, be lucky to have it :)

i did low lights and my dark brown hair turn red too,i told my hairdresser about this, she did twice a light toner but still my hair is red or rather orange colour which i do not like, and my hair keep going red!!! though a hairdresser sometime ago did advice me when my hair turn red always to use the ash colour!!!!
