Why did my husband's hair turn red?

My husband has dark broen hair and decided to go blonde, so I went to the local WM and picked up the least expensive brand I could find of Golden Blonde, his hair turned red, almost orange! Why? How can we fix it? Yikes, please help.

This is VERY common. Basically when you lighten hair you are lifting the color (pigments) from it and if you are using a hair color to do this, you'll be depositing additional color to the hair. When the hair is light and you are making it darker this is easy, there is no lift, just the addition of more color. But, when you lighten (or lift) you have to break through the levels of color. So, black hair, for example, when lightening, goes from Black, to brown, from brown to red, from red to gold, from gold to blond, etc. What happened to your husband is that his hair was too dark and the color you used probably only lifted his hair a shade or two, resulting in that dreaded orange phase (I'd suspect it is almost a rusty color). It is important when buying hair color over the counter to read the box and see what colors can be lightened with it. If he wants to be blond, use bleach, watch the color, read directions well. But, honestly, its best to let a professional handle it. At this point he may need a corrective color. If neither of these options work for you, then go back to the drug store and purchase an ASH Brown. Ash has a green base which is opposite of the red on the color wheel and will neutralize the orange and more than likely leave him with a color similar to what he began with. Best of luck, hope this helps.

that is what his hair pulls, it is in his undertones. i suggest you go to a professional to try to correct it if he wants to go light. otherwise, pick a dark color to cover it again.

because you should have used a toner afterwards.also not used golden .Golden brings out the red.Go to a beauty supply store they can sell you the products you will need to lift the color up and remove a brasiness.

Why did my husband's hair turn red?

he should go to a hairstylist--one who specializes in hair color.sounds like he needs a major toner but for now he needs to wash repeatedly with a cheap shampoo over and over. on a personal note guys should leave their hair color alone--metrosexual!

try buying a box of beige toner and tone it, you may have to do it again every week or so. You could also go to a hair salon to do the same or just die it dark, but whatever dark you choose make sure it is ash.

Keep bleaching. If you go to a beauty supply, not really much more expensive, like Sally's if they have those, you need to get the proper level of developer / lift depending on what color you start off with. He'll be okay, just needs a stronger (higher number) lift. Ask the people in the beauty supply store or call the manufacturer of the stuff you used. They can help you get the color you want. He needs more bleaching basically - his hair was too dark.

you didnt leave the blonde on for long enough

it should do the job.

Its happened to me once...it sucks.

Why did my husband's hair turn red?

In order for your husband to go completely blonde without orange or red you would have needed something that had bleach in it. For starters it would have been best to go to a hair place to do it. You would have to get several of the super blonde hair color to get the color you want. Unless you know how to mix colors and chemicals it would cost about $25.00 or less. If you want all blonde you would have to buy atleast 3 - 5 boxes and keep coloring his hair to the color that looks best. You need to get all the reds/orange out, then his hair will go blonder. You can try and get the blondest blonde they have and go from there.

Why did my husband's hair turn red?

go to a hairdressing supplies and get a container of powder bleach + 30 or 40 vol cream developer. mix bleach %26amp; developer into a smooth paste apply to hair ( do not rub into the scalp)

try and keep the product at least 1/2 a cm away fro the scalp area. once you get to a shade that is a very light lemon colour it will need to be rinced out ,shampoo %26amp; condition as normal.

you can alsobuy a purple toner that will stop the brassiness. this comes in shampoo and conditioner as well. hope this helps.
