My hair is red and up to my shoulders

IF the occasion for the dress is formal/dressy-----Well, with the style of the dress, and up-do is instore. It will make your neck look longer and slimmer. Try an audrey hepburn classic look, like in Breakfast at Tiffany's. You have probably seen the screen shot of her with the cigarette on the stick while she was wearing that beautiful black gown. If you want to add a modern flare to it, you can find a really cute mini tiara. If you can't imagine her look, just google the image. Its really classy and will go great with your dress.

The up do will also allow for some really pretty jewelry. A simple necklace and slightly dangling ear rings will really complete the look you want to go for. Since your hair is in an up-do, large or chandelier earrings will be a bit over-kill as far as jewelry goes. If you choose to go with stud earrings I'd reccomend diamond (or imitation, like cubic zirconum if your broke like me!!!).

If the occasion is casual or much less formal----Wearing your hair down could do well. Be sure to soften the ends with a curling iron, and try to part it to the side . If you want a true era look, try going all out curls with your hair. Don't go wiry or frizzy, but use some curlers and curling champoo (a curling iron will work also) for some elegant soft curls. For a less formal occasion, an accent necklace, and bracelet would look great. Reds, golds, and imitation ruby's are good. Feel free to wear some larger earrings since your hair is down (you want them to be noticed!!!) Don't be shy of trying some of the large, near clunky jewelry that seems to be the hit today, it will give a modern flare to a classic look and will really be cute with your hair!

It really isn't about the dress, it's about the shape of your face!

Something that usually looks great on everyone though is the hair pinned up with a few curled strands placed strategically around the face.

I found this site the other day. They have a lot of vintage hairstyles that are just georgeous. And they give instructions on how to do it. I think I would choose the sleek contour bun, as it is the most formal.
