You should be able to go any color brown you want ... provided you go to a professional to get it done. You need to go to a really good colorist also, as they will know that you need to use a color with a green base to it to counter act all the red pigments in your hair!!

Welcome to the club! :) I have reddish gold hair and have since dyed it a light golden brown. My husband loves it! I guess it depends how dark you want to go, but if you want to avoid the red highlights, stay with neutral not golden browns. That will mute the undertones.

Red is one of the hardest colors to cover. Trust me, I've been trying for ten years, but I decided I like the highlights, so...It's up to you how dark you go, but if you're a true redhead, you probably have light skin. Don't go real dark or it will look very harsh against a pale complexion. Good luck!

Light red? Dark red? How Brown? If you want a light brown, ya might want to pick up a dark ash blonde....the colors on the boxes are done on bleached hair therefore when put on hair with color in it already, it gets darker..always get a shade or two lighter than you want if you are looking at the box. Or if you want to use "levels" as we hairstylists use? go for an 8, dark blonde, 7 medium brown or 6, light brown. Your hair will probably have red highlights when in the sun or when it starts to fade. Ash colors counteract red, ash has a green base...just like in art? green is opposite from red. Then go out and buy a shampoo made specifically for brown hair..it will help keep thew color in and enhance your brown..but again..it's only natural for your redness to shine out some in certain light. When in doubt always go too light..ya can always darken but trying to fix a too dark of color is...uugghhhh! Hope this helps!
