I hear that they dull faster than any other color. Thats the only downside that I've heard. My hair is naturally red though so I couldn't tell you from experience whether this happens or not.

Red is in no was extreme. Less common, but not extreme.

If you want it to be subtle and natural looking try to go with a shade that will compliment you best. For example if you are a blonde now, maybe try a lighter shade of red, like a strawberry blonde. If you have dark brown hair go with an auburn.

No, I have been blonde for many years and I took a big step to go red. I have had more compliments and more on lookers then I ever did with the blonde hair. My opinion is red is a rare color alot women I have met say there to a afraid to go that color. But look around when your in a crowd what color stands out most? And there so many shades of red you can go from Auburn to bright red.
